Tools for Success: Spotlight on A Gift for Teaching
At The Good Pour, we believe that education is the ultimate foundation for a stronger community. But behind every successful student is a story of dedication, determination and the simple tools needed to learn.
We are proud to shine a spotlight on A Gift for Teaching, a local non-profit organization committed to providing free school supplies to teachers serving high-need public schools in Orange and Osceola counties.
According to AGFT, more than 70% of public schools in Central Florida are considered high-need. As a result, countless students arrive on the first day of school without the basic supplies they need to succeed — no pencils, no paper, no notebooks. To fill this gap, the average local teacher spends more than $500 of their own money each year to purchase supplies their students need.
A Gift for Teaching is changing that reality. By operating a free "store" for teachers, they welcome educators to stock up on essential learning tools without spending a dime of their hard-earned paychecks. Since the organization was founded in 1998, AGFT has distributed over $160 million in supplies, leveling the playing field for every child in our community.
Our team at The Good Pour recently got a first-hand look at the massive scale of this mission. We rolled up our sleeves and participated in The Great Big Backpack Build, working alongside fellow volunteers to fill 30,000 backpacks with brand-new school supplies. It was a powerful reminder of how a simple bag of supplies can transform a child’s confidence and set them up for a successful school year.
