The Good Pour Private Barrel: Frey Ranch
We are thrilled to kick off 2026 with an outstanding series of single barrel bourbon releases chosen by our passionate team of whiskey aficionados. These aren't just bottles you find on a shelf — these are hand-selected moments in time, chosen for their personality, complexity and soul.
How did we choose our Frey Ranch single barrel bourbon? It wasn’t easy, but it was certainly exciting. After some back and forth, it came down to two finalists, either of which would have been a fine choice.
The winner was one that held up to a few drops of water. Even when it was proofed down, it retained so much of what was good about each of those final two pours.
Colby and Ashley Frey, founders of Frey Ranch, did their best to remain neutral and, in the end, were happy to endorse the decision that was made by a consensus of the group of more than ten tasters. And that’s what inspired the name, “The People’s Pour.”
The choice wasn't the highest proof or the oldest, but rather a pleasant selection that was just off-profile enough from Frey Ranch’s flagship offering to get our attention.
The usual bourbon notes of vanilla, caramel and oak are there, but there's also a nice pop of citrus and sweetness on the mid palate that leads to a spicy punch on the back end, providing a long, smile-inducing finish.
This is one that earns a spot on your shelf because of its flavor profile: close enough to the original bottle while also funky enough to separate itself and leave you thinking, "This... this is a nice change of pace."
