Mindful Support: Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month

At The Good Pour, we often talk about the "spirit" of our community. While that usually refers to the bottles on our shelves, this May, we’re focusing on a different kind of spirit: our collective mental well-being.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to breaking down the stigmas that surround mental illness and prioritizing the wellness of our minds. It’s a reminder that no one has to navigate life’s hardships alone and that true health is holistic. Whether it’s finding a moment of stillness in a busy week or seeking professional support during a crisis, this month is about recognizing that "good" starts from within.

This month, we are proud to spotlight two charity partners that are doing the vital, heart-led work of supporting mental health right here in our community.

Lakewood Center

For adults living with serious mental illness — including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder — finding a path to stability can feel like an uphill battle. Lakewood Center, near Orlando, provides a different kind of answer. Rather than a clinical, time-bound facility, Lakewood Center is a therapeutic community designed to enhance the quality of life through long-term, comprehensive, evidence-based care

What makes Lakewood Center truly special is the understanding that healing doesn’t have a deadline. By offering a supportive environment with no time limits on treatment, they allow individuals to find hope and stability at their own pace. It is a place where residents aren't just patients — they are members of a compassionate community dedicated to long-term wellness and dignity.

Peer Support Space

Born out of the need for healing following the Pulse Nightclub tragedy, Peer Support Space was founded to fill the gaps in our mental health system, particularly for those in marginalized communities. PSS operates on a simple but radical belief: nobody understands a community like the community itself. As peer supporter Tamia beautifully puts it, "We are building a culture and community we don't have to be resilient against."

One of their most unique offerings is Eva’s Casita, Central Florida’s first overnight peer respite. Often described as a “bed and breakfast for big feelings,” the Casita is a non-clinical, homelike space where individuals can stay free of cost to find mindful rest away from life’s hardships. Beyond the Casita, PSS offers a wide range of virtual and in-person gatherings — from creative arts and gaming groups to specific affinity spaces — ensuring that everyone has a safe place to share their story and find their people.
